November 15 is National Recycling Day. This day is meant to recognize the importance of recycling by encouraging people to recycle their garbage and buy more recycled goods. It is also a great time for you to teach your child about recycling.
 

Learning About Recycling

Recycling in its simplest form is just using old materials from discarded items to create something new. The concept of reuse has been around for quite a long time, and even though things have gotten a bit more technical with specific recycling techniques and large-scale recycling operations, the underlying concepts remain the same.

One of the easiest ways to teach your child about recycling is to participate in your own home. Organize your garbage into separate containers of things that can and can't be recycled. You can encourage kids to help you divide out different recyclable materials, such as plastics, papers, and glass, into additional containers. Then, take them to a recycling center with you so they can see where it all ends up. Use sorting the trash and taking it to the center as opportunities to show and tell your child what recycling is and how it can benefit the environment.
